2020 brought with it many challenges: COVID-19, quarantining, social distancing, and economic uncertainty. Those challenges also brought with them lots of good: family togetherness, reflection, kindness, and gratitude. Gratitude for what we have, where we live, and who we are as Citizens of Lawrence County.

Our Historic Square is a reminder of the special place we call home. The iconic Gazebo (circa 1990) was made possible by the hard work, dedication, and donations of many Lawrence County citizens, and it’s a place filled with stories past and stories yet to be told.

Davy Crockett, erected in bronze on the south side of the Square in 1922, serves as a reminder of our heritage since our founding in 1817 and what we stand for as a community today. Crockett stood firm in his beliefs as a frontiersman, as a statesman, and as a soldier. We stand firm in who we are as Lawrence Countians with a wonderfully rich past that will direct us to a bright and prosperous future.
